National Geographic Magazine (June 1952) names Ziad Khan the Father of the Dareshuri Horse and regarding the love for his horses writes that:
he registered all the foal births and matings in a notebook and keeps his favorite colt in his own tent.
William Douglas, who stayed with Ziad Khan as his guest for one month in the years 1949-1950, dedicated one whole chapter of his book “Strange Lands and Friendly People” to the Dareshuri Horses and describes the methods of training, attitudes and abilities of the Dareshuri Horse in detail.
Bonnie L. Hendricks, author of the International Encyclopedia of Horse Breeds published by the University of Oklahoma in 1995, has introduced the Dareshuri Horse as an Iranian Breed that was made popular by Ziad Khan and Hosein Khan and that the extinction of the breed after these two men is highly possible.
With the death of the two men mentioned above, those once interested in the propagation of the Dareshuri are losing interest and this horse may die out.
The Dareshuri Horse has also been registered as an Iranian breed of horses in the DAD-IS list that was collected and published by FAO.
